Default Surging?

I was on my way to the coffee shop tonight & while cruising about 45-MPH I noticed something that hasn't happened before. The motor seemed to be surging while in Th gear.

The bike is 100% stock, 160 miles on the clock &today I changed the break in oil w/Bel-Ray 10-40 dino.

Since this is something new tome I thought I wouldask the hive what they thought. The only change was the oil & fresh tank of gas.

I double checked the oil, level is fine!

No, just a change of oil. The dealer said just bring it in for the 600mi change but I wanted to get some fresh oil in it. I figured the filter should be catching any crap that it floating arround.

it could have been just the cold tempature today. did you let the bike warm up real good? these small displacement bikes do not like it cold and will run like crap until they are up to tempature. you should get that oil filter out of there too.

+1 on changing the oil filter. My bike did the same thing, once I raised the needle a notch it went away. Mine was modded at the time but the bike is lean from the start and the colder weather doesn't help thing. Might be time to start to think about putting some new jetsand a needlein the carb.

I always warm it up for 3-5 minutes before riding & I just did a 4 mile ride from the house to Starschmuks to a coffee. spent 20 minutes there & then started up & hit the road. I did not warm itup before leaving from coffee but the bike should have still benn warm.

I'll have to look up the fram filter specs & hit walmart for a filter. Can I change my filter without loosing all my oil?

This is funny! You will have to drain it so may as well strain the oil into a clean container for refilling. I use coffee filters for straining.

20 minutes sitting in the cold is a long time actually.

You may actually be able to change the filter without losing much oil. It sits higher than the actual oil level.

You can probably change the filter without draining, but you'll want to double check the level in the sight glass, you might need to top it off a little afterwards.
