Default stripped header stud bolt.

Well, this is the 3rd thread to strip on my new KLX so far.. never ran into any problems like this on my other bike. One of my header bolts is stripped and I can find a way to get to it to get it out. What are my options? don't have a truck so no way to get it to a shop and I need to get this thing out. (and replace with either a stud or just a screw to match the threads)

can't fit a re-threader in there either... too close to the engine.

can you get two nuts on some of the threads and tighten them against each other, then just use them to spin the stud out of the head? Or smash the stud really bad and screw a nut onto it until it really binds against the messed up part of the stud and try to back it out?

thinkt he only option is reverse drill it out of there... i don't have a drill and the local shop here in California is 85 dollars minimum... and thats if they can even get it out. if not they probably have to take the top end off.

is it possible to get away with 1 bolt to ride it 1 mile to the shop? or is that going to screw anyhting up not having a good seal?

You can buy a drill for less than a shop will charge to *try* to get it out. Then you'll already have the drill on hand for the next bolt you strip out...

An easy-out is a reversed-threaded "tool" used to back out a broken bolt/stud. They are relatively inexpensive and come in various sizes.

Where are you at in FM? I moved from NY state to FL for a job @ 5 years ago. I lived on the Cape for 2 years, then finally moved to Utah (for work, again). Can't say I miss FL though...
