Stock tires suck HELP!
Just under 200 miles I do mostly tight technical trails with all of the nastys New England can throw at you, leaves, mud, roots, rocks, ruts, frost, ice, snow and sand. I've played with the rebound and tire pressure trying to help it out till these tires wear out but I crashed hard today hitting my left side of my helmet and left shoulder on a mighty oak which was loud enough that my son on his Crf 230 heard it when he was at least three bike lenghts in front of me. After shaking of the stars I was seeing I am now in the market for new tires. I do 90% trails any suggestion as it has been over twenty years since I've bought dirt tires. Oh also what size rim locks are needed? Thanks PS. I am thinking Trak Masters

The stock tires suck big time. Hard sun baked clay and some sand or loose rocks and I feel like I'm on black ice.
On the street, polished asphalt lets the bike waggle down the road. I'd hate to do an emergency manuever when it's all I can do to keep it upright in a straight line. I bought some street tires to make the commutes to work safer.
Rimlocks - I think it's 1.60 on the front and 2.15 on the rear.

For the North East I'd recommend a Trakmaster 2 rear and a Kenda 776F front tire. Around $85 for the pair. Great grip front and rear, the 776F has a bit more directional stability both on and offroad than the Trakmaster 2 front tire and the ***** won't shear off with heavy use. Some of the NJ riders mentioned they had that issue with the front TM.
I got 2200 miles out of that pair doing 50/50 riding/commuting and now am on to Michelin AC-10's and they are pretty good too, pricier but I don't find they do anything better other than their street manners are smoother and quieter.
