Stock pilot jet or #40

Stock pilot jet or #40
I ordered a #40 pilot jet with my other parts for my carb mod. Is this necessary? How many folks are changing it out and how many are staying stock?
Forgive the newbie question, but what effect will the change make?

Well I guess that depends what else you did as far as mods. I kept the stock pilot,
stock needle, but shimed it up .030" and have the 128 main jet. I have the full muzzy
and airbox lid with snorkel removed and hole opened up. mine runs perfectly, I have
checked the spark plug from time to time and always looks nice light brown.

I don't think the difference between the 35 & the 40 is a lot. I have the 40 and 2 turns on the FS seems to be the ideal. I notice the guys that have the 35s go 2 1/2 turns out. I know that Kouba does not recommend going over 2 1/2. If you are planning other mods, I would just go with the 40, IMO.

I found that the 35 was too small and took quite a long time to warm up. The 40 seemed good when the weather was a little cooler but when it warmed up I thought it was a little rich. I currently am using a 38 pilot at 2 1/2 turns out, but I dropped my needle to the 2nd slot and think that I might put the 40 back in.
