STOCK FORK SETTINGS WERE OFF!

RE: STOCK FORK SETTINGS WERE OFF!
Mine was 11 clicks on the right and 11.5 clicks on the left...[&:]
I set it for the factory setting of 8 clicks out. I'll go for a ride to see how it feels. Most likely since I weight about 185, probably 195 with gear, I will be stiffening it up a little more.

Huge increase in street handling with the 8 clicks instead of the 11.5 clicks that the bike came with. No more nose dive around corners and the front end is lot more stable at highway speeds. I'll go down one click at a time until I find the best compromise. My "dry weight" is 180-185 and I probably weight about 195 with helmet and gear. How many clicks out should I set it at? I ride agressive on the street. Off-road, I don't do jumps, just trail riding...

RE: STOCK FORK SETTINGS WERE OFF!
My "dry weight" is about 200lbs. I went with Todds fork setting of 4 clicks out, and took the shock compression damping and Rebound down 4 clicks each from the stock setting. This set up works awesome on the street. It turns and handles way better. Off road is another story altogether. I took it in some deep sand, and the front end tried it's hardest too pitch me to the ground. This set up might work good in hard pack..but in the sand it [sm=smiley11.gif][sm=smiley21.gif]

RE: STOCK FORK SETTINGS WERE OFF!
I adjusted mine today as well, my forks and shock. I jacked it up and first let the air pressure release screws out to let the air built up in the fork to escape. I then turned my compression screws all the way in, and then backed them out 15. This made my front end FIRMER, not SOFTER. The more I turned them in the softer my front end got. Same with the rear shock. I then went and rode and tested where my front end use to bottom and it no longer bottomed. So I think the further you back them out the firmer it gets. I don't know, but it worked for me. And no, mine weren't setup like they say they were either. One was 11 and one was 10. I set it at 15 and it is firmer now. Travis

RE: STOCK FORK SETTINGS WERE OFF!
Hey Travis. I had a similar experience when I adjusted the forks. I turned them all the way in(clockwise), and then backed them out 8. They were initially at 11 and 12. The forks were like mush after changing them to 8. They would almost bottom out just by my pushing on them with the front brake on. I turned them all the way back in, and then backed them out to 4 clicks and they were fine. Not sure why they did that, but the less clicks out from being seated, definitely makes them firmer. Trying too find a setting that works great on and off road is nearly impossible. Firmer works better on the road, but then it doesn't allow the suspension to do it's thing off the road. Just have too find a happy medium, I guess.

actually, that's the opposite of my experience. the further i seated them the mushier they got. i backed them out 15 from fully seated and they are perfect for me. does anyone know the official word on the adjusting?

Huh? That's the opposite of my KLX. Are you going clockwise looking down on the ground or clockwise looking up from the ground?
