Its my first dirt bike (having some Fun with it ![Smile](https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I got it last month with just 2200 miles and it runs great!
But it seems to me it could have more Ummmpf at the lower rpm's
New (paper) air filter?
New header?
New exhaust?
New jets?
Remove the 'snorkel' (and replace it with nothing?)
...from what i've read, these are some of the tweaks that might give me a boost, which should I go for first? Or did I miss something?!?
One more thing, the guy i bought it from, was Short, like 5-2
I wonder if he might have adjusted it down some? Is that possible?
Can the forks be 'adjusted' ?
I can see some threads atop the center strut, is that a height adjustment as well??
Any and all help/advice, will be greatly appreciated

Rear 'dog bones' on the rear shock linkage will be stamped 118. If they're different then chances are it's been lowered. The forks can be dropped in the triple clamps to lower the front some. Stock has about 10 mm protruding from the top triple clamp.
Stock header works well with a slip on muffler for the 250 cc. Big bore kit it and the larger header would help too.
If you're in the states then upping the main jet from a #118 to a #132 will give more power, also removing the plug fitted over the fuel/air screw so you can adjust it out. (more fuel)
A better than stock air filter will also help (paper or foam) decide on any air box/filter mods before you jet the carb' otherwise you'll be doing it twice.
(I.e. removing the snorkel/air box lid/KDX snorkel swap.)
The 'free mods' are the easiest. Check the FAQ sticky thread on the top of the forum page.
BTW, welcome to the forum.![Big Grin](https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
The search feature is also very comprehensive.

What I did when I still had the 250:
DJ jet kit (128, stock pilot, 2.5 turns, DJ needle 4th clip)
Foam air filter (no toil)
motion pro quick turn throttle
13t front sprocket
remove air box lid
FMF Q4 full exhaust system
Really woke the bike up, but still nothing compared to the big bore kit..
So I'd start there, then when you can, do the big bore.

Thanks WestOzKLX
I"ll check out the stamp on the rear and take a measurement on the forks
The new Jet looks like a pretty cheap mod
Though i can't say the same for the slip on muffler $$
I found the "KLX250S Mods Thread Index"
![EEK!](https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif)
I guess I should have started here!
I think I'll dig in, see if i can't find the free ones, that seems a good place to start!! Free is always good

After reading a lot of you're posts up here
I'm thinking I can actually pull off my own carb and do this !!
I've decided to start here for my stock 2006 KLX 250...
16009-1912--------Needle-Jet,N1TC
92143-1667--------Needle Collar
92037-1401--------Clamp, Needle Jet
92063-1074--------#128 Main Jet (or would 125 be a better fit?)
14073-1577--------Duct, Inlet
...all for about $65
![Big Grin](https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I don't think I need a #40 Jet Pilot, correct?
Altitude is always under 500' around here -so clip at 2nd from top?
Air screw out 2-1/2 turns?
I'll be drilling out my slide, per this lovely picture http://klxforum.suncup.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=50
I never see anyone talking about a new gasket for the carb after removing it, no need new gasket here?
Also gonna take an extended 1/2" drill bit, and run it right down the center of my stock exhaust, drill trough whatever I hit first (the first baffle plate i hope).
Will this due till I get an HMF slip on next year?
Would I have to adjust anything going from drilled exhaust to HMF?
Finally, lots of people changing the front sprocket to a 13t
This would help the low end in 2nd and 3rd, but hurt on my short highway runs, correct?

If you're near sea level forget the #128 main jet and get a #132 main jet. The AUS bikes come stock from the factory with #132 main and a #32 pilot jet. Stock exhaust and filter. Ran fine.
The 06 and 07 and earlier model KLX have a tall 6th gear (overdrive as it's a dual sport), getting the 13 tooth front sprocket will actually give you better highway speed and better fuel economy as the bike cant pull the stock 14 tooth in sixth.
Spend the $15 on a new 13 tooth front.
IMHO don't bother with the KDX snorkel, just pull the original out. The lid will still give a lot of protection from water. I've been running no lid whatsoever since new and have hit some big creeks. Never had a problem if you're sensible around the wet stuff.
