Its fine... the dings are not into the copper wires.
Its just the laminated plates... the plates are laminated for eddy current control to help increase the efficiency of the magnetic fields, but they are not necessary... you could use solid blocks of iron if you wished; would just be less efficient.

While the laminations are insulated from each other, the shorting in one or two places would not cause a problem. If they were all non-insulated, it would be inefficent and create heat.

Well at least you got going again. Sometimes it's worth hanging on to your old parts, but most of us don't think of that at the time.

Back when I use to design transformers we had to submit varnished and unvarnished samples to UL for eval. The unvarnished ones ran hotter and buzzed, but worked fine.

I was telling one of my riding buddies at work about my stator question, and all of your very quick replies. I asked my question and sat down to watch the Superbowl, before the game was over I had 12 intelligent responses. He thought that was pretty cool, which it is. Thanks again.
