Starts in the cold

dan, last year's pattern was cold and wet predicitions...and it was...but this winter is supposed to be drier and a little warmer...that Pacific influence deal. My next 10 day forecast in Big Bend is already showing 10-15 degrees warmer on average than last year. Looks like highs will range from 72-82 after Tuesday. I'm liking that.

Mine starts all year round.... never had a cold weather problem starting it. The one year i started it and actually rode it to the closest gas station when it was 15 degrees out...

I drilled my choke jet out when I had the carb off to change to the 351. It started fine before but since I read so much here, I said what the heck. I put in a bigger main jet and moved the needle too.
So the question is have you driven the thing after the 351 conversion or just start it up in the garage? I have a few hundred miles on it and holy sh*t! Its a whole different bike. When I bought the bike it was less than I expected, now its a lot more. TORQUE and acceleration. I can do a write up on the results of the upgrade if anyone is interested.
This thing is the *****!

I have a success story too after drilling the starter jet, I believe I used the .018 size bit. Does it matter that it was my first start up after installing the 351 kit as well? Anyway, I was tickled that I got my bike back together with no extra pieces.
Well, the temp here in Utah was somewhere around 30 degrees the first time I started it up after the install. Turned over better than ever. I was one of those guys with perpetual starting problems, but not anymore. I have since started it up a couple more times and the temp here has been anywhere from 15 to 25 degrees and it starts up everytime and I have never needed to turn the gas off, lean the bike over, or any of that stuff. I am finally, for the moment, 100% happy with this bike.

I really got to drill out the starter jet. I've tried starting my KLX for the first time after the DynoJet kit installed. I still have starting issues with temps below 40*F. I did get it started after cranking on it for a bit and doing the lean the bike over trick.
So where does one get one of those .018 inch drill bit or is it a .018 mm drill bit?

0.018
I did a googler search on "drill bit size conversion table" and found that 0.0180" is a 77 wire no. / letter and 0.455mm on this site http://www.csgnetwork.com/drillsizeconvert.html
I'm assuming this is the 0.018 posted around.

I bought a small bit assortment for $4.99 at a hardware store and the .018 INCH bit was the smallest on in the bunch.
My bit is now off to Malaysia. Perhaps Ricky will play it forward if he does not break it off in the jet...
