Default Starter Jet Drilling - Verify Location Please

Finally starting my long list of upgrades to my 2009 KLX250S.........

Need to verify the location of the starter/enrichment jet to drill it out to .018"
Can anyone verify if the below is correct........sure don't want to drill the wrong thing.

Thank You....

Sure was a lot of crud in the carb......suspect the previous owner left gas in the bowls many times during non-use and it dried out, leaving a lot of residue.
Bike is a 2009 and only had 168 miles on it when I bought it.

Took all the jets out and soaking everything good to clean it out.
Huge box of goodies to install.

I just drilled mine today. I hope it starts better in the morning. I have a question how long or (depth) is the jet? I found a .018 bit at the hobby lobby here in town. The bit was only about an inch and a half long. I didn't feel it bottom out on anything and hope I got through the jet.

Did you feel any resistance while drilling?
If so, you should have felt it blow through the jet and bottom out, IIRC.

I did feel resistance when I was drilling. I don't think I felt it bottom out. The bit did go cleanly through a couple times after I finished the first drilling.

bought a bit to do mine( 06), it was already that size

if my bikes doesn't crank right up after sitting a week, I just tip it to the side flooding the overflow, lights right off.

So let me understand this,,,, if you drill out that hole the bike is suppose to start better. Right?
If that's the case, why didn't they just make it bigger in the first place?

LOL!...Mucky, not trying be a smart aleck, honestly, but by your statement no manufacturer would ever make a mistake or misjudge a component's funtionality in the final product. Especially on a street legal bike, it has to meet emission standards, and those standards include what emissions occur during startup/warmup. Kawasaki apparently misjudged the optimum size for that jet. This isn't that uncommon over time. When I worked part time as a mechanic at a local motorcycle shop, a new model of KZ650 road bike had cold start problems...not every bike, but enough that we got lots of complaints. Finally we got an "under-the-table" fix mentioned by one of their techs about drilling the starter jets slightly bigger. There was never a recall or bulletin. If Kawasaki had given this as an official fix, it would have violated the emission ratings of the bike...at least that was under-the-table message. The fix did indeed address the cold start problem.

On our KLX this seems to fix most of those with cold start issues, but there seems be one or maybe more additional issues on some bikes...like the KACR or such. The off-road-only KLX300 doesn't seem to have as much problem with cold start and that's just with a kickstart...well, at least no more problems than many 4-stroke dirt bikes when cold starting.
