Default star shifter

I have a 07' and it now has 1300 miles on it and lately when I've been riding offroad it keeps popping out of gear I changed the oil but it was still doing it. I searched around on here but didn't know if the anybody knew if the 09's star was better or would fit on the 07 to solve this problem.

I thought they said that the 09's had an improved star but I wasn't sure if anyone has tried it on a 07 yet.

What gear is it popping out of? I have 2200 1/2 off road 1/2 on road miles and mine stays in gear perfectly. 1 or 2 times I didn't click up hard enough into 2nd and it ended up in neutral but it was my fault. I adjusted the shift lever down 2 splines and it never happened again. Your star may be damaged. I know they have a bad reputation but I have no problems even shifting/jumping/shifting over multiple jumps in a row. Maybe lowering the lever would help but otherwise get it fixed under warranty.

It's a well known issue with these machines since the mid-90's KLX300...
It's not that hard to modify your own star with a grinder...

Check these threads.
Oh, also try switching to synthetic - I found it helped the shifting...

Double snorkel & shift star fix installed

Shift star dilemma solved (sort of)

Ooops, I guess the images are broken now but the text is in tact...

I think its been doing it from 2nd to neutral butI think its also done it from 3rd too.I know sometimes its from not getting it engauged all the way but it seems like more than that because some I'll come out of a corner in first get on it hard then go up to 2nd nail the throttle and it will engauge for a second or two then pop out of gear. Thats why I was thinking maybe it was the clutch.

i had the same problem. it's the shift star. easy fix. you'll need a new gasket for that cover.

I would try to move the shifter down first. move it 2 teeth down and try that.

the above links appear to be broken, but it may just be my work PC. Anyone else have trouble getting to them?

I found the new links to the old threads through the search function (which, by the way seems to work better than the old search - it actually works when searching by user name).
