Sprockets other than the norm?

Sprockets other than the norm?
I know there has been a lot of talk about the 13T/14T counter sprockets along with the 42/45 rear ones.
But, I was just curious if anyone has gone higher on the rear than the 45T? If so, what are the advantages or disadvantages? The reason I ask is, after a very hard time trying to get up a very steep, mud soaked hill, I thought maybe a higher tooth on the back would help me out in the dirt. I have the 13T/42T setup right now. I thought about maybe having 2 different setups. One tire witha 42T and another with say a 50T. Now I am a newbie so be kind. lol...
Thanks

RE: Sprockets other than the norm?
For the dirt I run a 13/47 combo and I love it! Still managed to make it to 120 km/hr with this set up. I also have a 15 tooth sprocket for highway use that will drop the ratio almost back to stock.

Try a 45 on the back, I know you wanted to know about a bigger one, but really the higher you go on the back the faster the usable rear wheel spin will top out in each gear. Its all relative to what gear you decide to use. I think the 13-45 is the perfect combination. If you run a 47 or 49 it just means you are going to use 3rd instead of 2nd, or 4th instead of 3rd. It just depends on how high you want to run your rpm's at what gear. Bottom line is in 1st gear you want to be able to climb/pull while getting the bike rolling up to speed. I don't know if that makes sense, but it sounded good.

RE: Sprockets other than the norm?
I just changed out my13/42 for a 14/49 Renthal and DID chain. I ride tight stuff and going from stock to the 13 CS got me to 2nd/3rd gear most of the time. The 14/49 should move me up another gear and take away the tighter bend going around the countershaft. The 49 looks like serious business on the rear rather than the stock 42. I also just added the S12 Michelin and it is a little taller than stock so I needed a little more gearing down which the 49 should give me.

RE: Sprockets other than the norm?
I just tried a 14/53 and I love it. Fast shifting, pulling power. I like 0-60. I ride mostly highway no problem doing 60 mph. I would like to go as far as trying a 13t, I have a 12t that will not work. Told that you have to use one for a xr 600 honda. If that's true, you will not have to buy a chain to install a larger rear. I also had to make spacer for chain cover moving it up. The bottom slider had to be moved down and forward to clean. I feel the bike should have been geared like this from stock. The 300 is 14/50

RE: Sprockets other than the norm?
I have the 14/48 with a new Renthal chain and it made a world of difference. Other post have said that if you put anything bigger that a 48 on the rear you have to modify the cain guide. I didn't try it, the 48 works great.
