Heh, I just purchased a 49 tooth rear sprocket and a new chain for the extra length required. I also happen to have finally received my 13 tooth front, but my plan was to just stick with the 14F + 49R after Tony's report. However, it might be fun to try the 13F + 49R. Maybe I'll cruise around the neighborhood and see if anyone needs any stumps pulled out

Hey man it's up to you and your riding style 14/49 is way better for road and longevity but with the 13/47 or 48 there's just so much more go.

So is it more economical to just keep the stock front sprocket but go with a 48 tooth rear? What size chain would I need with this setup? Keeping the stock front sprocket seems like the smart thing to do - is there really a big difference between 13/45 (3.46) and 14/48 (3.42)??

heres a link to help you out.http://www.sprocketspecialists.com/S...ptimizer2.aspx

just fill in the data and it will tell you.

Well, I'd be happy with anything right now. My bike is still apart waiting on parts. To get me running again, I need:

[ul][*] valve shim kit[*] IMS tank
[/ul]

I did get my new Rental bar installed along with my MSR Hawkins guards. I love those, they look great. My petcock for the tank arrived today. I can't wait to get the tank.

The service dept at my dealer is next to useless - cannot even tell me what diameter valve shims to get. I don't want to order them from Kawi individually, I want a kit with all the sizes. Not only are they more expensive individually, I'd also have to take the cam shafts out and see what size shims are in there now, _then_ order the right sizes to bring them into spec. Dealer says 7 days to get them in. No thanks. I ask for pricing on a valve shim kit - say they'll call me back he has to look it up. Nada, no call back. Didn't I just drop 5K on a bike from them? You'd think they'd be a little more helpful. I ask him what the shim diameters are, says he doesn't know. I ask him if he has an calipers and can measure one for me - I guess that's too much trouble. WTF? Sigh. Next to useless.

I _think_ they are 7.48 mm shims, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I took a chance and bought a kit of those. I'll find out after I get in there whether they work or not. If they do, I'm golden. If not, then I'm at the mercy of the dealer to get the replacements. If it comes to that, I'll use BikeBandit instead.

Of course, if my tank comes in before the valve shims, I reckon a few more miles on her won't hurt before I change them out. I'm having KLX withdraw.

Just replaced the front sprocket with a 13t. It is much better now. I had a really hard time getting the nut on the front sprocket off. I tried a breaker bar then an impact gun and no luck so I had to get the torch out and heat it up a bit and then finally it came loose... WOW that thing was tight!!
