Default Sprocket sizing

I know which sprockets came stock. My question is, which sprockets,if any will interchange with other bikes?
I was at my local dealer and all the catalogs listed front as 13T or 14T, rear 42T.
I would like to run a 39Ton the rear. Or safely run a 15T front.

Wow!!!! Well if you thought the bike was low on power with the stock gears, those will make 5th and 6th just about worthless. Are you trying to break the 100 mph mark? This bike was not designed to so that. 13-45 is the best option, gives you the low end on the trails and you can still do 60 mph, which is as fast as I ever want to go. Oh and welcome to the forums if I missed you in the new members area? If you haven't introduced yourself there, stop by and let us give you a proper welcome.

Gearing is all about preference so you'll get alot of different answers to the question.

For me the stock rear sproket and stock chain length, allows me to switch from 14 to a 13 up front quickly depending on the ride I'm doing. I just snug the nut and bend the lock washer over a little.

PO of my bike liked 14/49 and had along chian on it. I thought it was too low and went 14/45 taking 2 links out. That was a real good compromise for me. Later I took another 2 links out and started doing the 13/14 swap as needed thing.

I have an 06 that has a bigger 5-6 step than the new klx, so results may be different.

The 13t from the mohave quad is correct for the 250s, NOT the 300 sprocket FWIW. A 15t would be worthless IMHO unless your commute was all downhill, doubt it would even fit with the casesaver in place anyway. Point is, the 15 is available becaue it fits the quad motor.

Thanks for you inputs. I run alot of highway. I have ridden trails, lots of them. IMOP you can have all the trails you want, just not me. I have a couple of four wheelers, for that purpose. I have had the 13T front with 42T rear, on this bike. Didnt see enough gain on the low end, to justify the loss on the top end. Thats why I am asking about the sprocket. I still want to go lower than the 42T rear. Is there a sprocket from another Kawasaki that would fit it?

The 39 tooth rear sprocket from the 2009 KLX250SF will do the job. Part number 42041-1507.

If you are using the stock 14 tooth front sprocket you will have to remove a link from the chain.
