You need to get your weight back and open the throttle to the stop. Seriously, at the top of second gear it will just start to float, the top of third everything will be right with the world. I have ridden sandy trails through the woods, the sand pits between the slickrock in Moab, and been out to the Little Sahara a few times with my KLX it does good, just isn't a wheelie machine.
