Only been riding for less than two years (less than one off-road).
If you have to regularly adjust chain tension it can be a sign that the links are starting to wear. Look for rusty links or kinks in the links. Pull the chain backwards off the rear sprocket, if more than half the tooth is exposed then it's getting close. Also look at the sprockets and see if they are starting to get pointy or sharp or sometimes the metal will get smashed on the drive side of the tooth.

Look at a new set of sprockets, the U of teeth is symmetric, A worn set will show the wear. The front will visibly be not only non symmetric, but actually look hooked. Fewer teeth, lots of wear. The back, upon closer inspection, will also show a lack of symmetry in the U shape, worn on the tooth slope toward the front looking at the top. That is the driven side of the sprocket and as such will wear more than the back slope.

If any wear shows, the sprocket is worn out and putting on a new chain will only wear out the new chain faster.

Thanks you two. Will check things out.

Use bike green laning and soft enduro. But 80% road use to get to lanes (bummer).
Quite happy with 13:42 but thinking of trying 45. Can then go to 14 if don't like.

Renthal sprockets with DID chain?
Also what length chain for 14:45?
