Spring behind oil filter

Spring behind oil filter
Changed the oil on my bike today for the 3rd time and I'm sick and tired of the spring behind the oil filter. I almost have to lay the bike down, holding it up with my legs to get it back in so it stands straight up. Has anyone removed this spring. The only function I see is to help push the oil filter out.
By the way it's a 2007 klx 250. For what ever reason I cannot create a signature.

Bend the spring open a bit on one end (make the diameter larger)and then put that larger end in the bike first. It will stay right where you put it for the rest of eternity. No more laying the bike over etc.

Hey I just saw that you're in Ft Atkinson My grandfather lived on the river just downstream from I-90 (Edgerton). You should check out some of the dual sport rides in the area. There is one next weekend in Leaf River IL, South west of Rockford. Another that takes place in the fall is real close to you. The Bucky is in Cross Plains WI, just west of Madison. Great places to ride off road, since we don't have much to choose from around here.

+1. Done this myself too, and I never had to mess with the spring ever again.
