spare tube
I have heard of people packing one spare tube that will work on either wheel. Does not sound feasible to me with 18 and 21 inch rims
.Anyone do this and if so what size? Also I was looking for a rear 4.60-18 tube online and not finding that particular size.

If I remember right (which is a big if), it's the 21 inch tube. It will fit the front perfect and can be crammed into the back if that happens to pop. I hope someone a little more experienced will come along and verify this or give you the right answer.

Yes, the 21" front tube can also be used in the 18" rear to get you "out of the woods." I've done it myself. It will get you home, just don't leave it in there long term.

I only carry the 21", as well. Haven't had to use it yet, thank goodness.
Hijack: what's the best way to carry a tube to keep it from getting damaged? I have mine rolled basically the way it came in the box, then I wrapped it with a rag and taped it up. It's in my front fender bag with my tire irons. With the bag's straps pulled tight, I don't think anything in there can move around enough to rub a hole in the tube. Any better suggestions?

I bring both
21 will work in the rear. Rode 40 miles to some trails (rowher flats). As soon as I got there I got a nail on the 1st single track on my rear tire. It was my first tube change and all I had was a 21. Got it crammed in with the help of illking and a senior rider. Rode the rest of the day. 20 miles off road. Sundown we were coming back through the mountains on pavement back to la and tire went flat again. Had to wait 2hrs for AAA. Now I carry both regular tubes 18 and 21. The hd tubes don't pack light. When I pulled the tube to check what happened it got pinched because of the cramming. Hope this helps

I couldn't be bothered to carry a container of talc with me on the trail, but if it's already on the tube... Why didn't I think of that???
