What size socket do you need to remove the CS sprocket.

Bingo!

1 1/16" (or maybe 1 1/8", I forget) will work in a pinch but be careful not to round corners.

Any auto parts store will have a 27 mm impact socket in the brake / axle repair section of their tool crib.

I wihs I had an impact gun... I'm still trying to figure out how to loosen off the countersprocket bolt. My last biek weighed 150lbs more so it wasn;t a problem. It just spinds the tires and the engine. I think i'll need something to hold the rear brake while I loosen it.

get an impact wrench they dont cost much and you will use it a lot on bikes. BTW Kawasaki do NOT include a 27mm spanner in the toolkit [:@] I found out when I got a flat

My front sprocket bolt came right off. I didn't need a impact gun. All I used was a breaker bar and one of my buddies foot on the rear brake. Just make sure that you tap the washer out of the way, since its bent over the bolt. That might be your problem.
Just on a side note.... I saw a very increase in bottom end when I changed the front sprocket..... Wheeles in second gear.. No problem at all...
Good luck!!

There will come a time when you "need" it, worth every cent.

this is exactly the info i was looking for. i have a new KLX250S and i did a recent ride in the Allegheny National Forest of Pennsylvania with my brother. he has a CRF230 and crawled over rocks and the slow stuff with ease. i had to play the clutch alot when creeping up hills and at times had to go too fast at times to get the power i needed. it sounds like all i need to do is change the front sprocket only...not the back. is this true?

Stock gears 14-42 OK for fire roads and highway, and 6th gear is worthless. 13-45 gears, Muzzy exhaust and jetting that's what I'm talking about baby!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wheelies in 2nd and lots of low end torque. Even 6th gear has great acceleration now, so with the 13-42 and before the mods, I was at 6000 rpm's at 60 in 6th gear, now with the 13-45 and the other mods I'm at 6800 rpm's at 60 in 6th gear.
