Now I need to add a "SOCK GUARD" in addition to my "SKID PLATE"??? Someone has to come up with a design for this.

Bummer... I don't think your going to find out what is going on without going in.

The good news is; this will probably never happen to you again, not in a million years!

try moving the sprocket back and forth with a socket (engine off of course) while shifting. on my bikes sometimes I need to rock them back and forth to get the transmision to engage properly from a standstill out of neutral.

That's crazy! Good thing the chain didn't fly off and hit you.

The shifting just means that you are getting the shift drum to spin. Time to take the right side cover off and see if power is making it to the input shaft.

If you put the bike in gear. With engine off. Can you spin the sprocket freely?

It is much easier to fix something under the right sidecover than to split the cases for internal tranny stuff. Most of the things that can pop are under the right cover.

Damn socks! One of them crawled into the airbox of my '76 Husky 360 one time before a big race and caused me to foul a few spark plugs before I found the culprit hiding in there. They're sneaky little bastids! Beware!

Lol ... I was actually going to make a comment inquiring how the contents of your airbox ended up all over the highway but decided to be nice this week.

I wonder if Dan's super-case saver is sock proof ?
