Snow Ride 12-29-2007
Since its 40 degrees out and the snow appeared to be melting down quite a bit (more later) I thought I'd try and hit the trails near the house. I picked up 200 hex head sheet metal screws but didn't put them in yet figuring its just snow I won't need them. It rained pretty hard last night so the snow was very wet and mostly ice crystals. I figured I'd be able to float on top of the old snowmobile tracks....wasn't to be. No sleds have been down the trails in weeks and we've had several thaws so it looked good, but there was no real consistancy. Before any sledheads give me hell...see above, its 40 and its all slush and these trails are truck trails, not dedicated sled trails.......
Anyway, I found that I could get a decent head of steam going in 2nd gear and just keep it spinning. I think I topped out near 20 mph a few times but it was tough going. The trail was mostly downhill for the mile and a half that I went in which caused some issues on the way back. Namely first gear, crawling back up and having to pause and let it cool down. The overtemp light never came on but the fan was on most of the time.
Enough typin' here's the pics...
I took the above 3 shots laying down on the seat waiting for the bike and myself to cool down. I think I'll be switching to my 13 tooth sprocket before riding again.
And here's the last looking back down where I came from...

nice pic's josh.you must be really bored out of your mind to go out when it's that sloppy. was a good workout wasn't it? i did it a couple years ago ONCE. first time last time for me. wait for the temps to drop a bit so that you can stay on top a bit more and it'll be easier. how's that spare set of wheels coming along?

Still waiting on spokes, they shipped the 27th.... Yep I was bored alright. Discovered the studs are def. not hardened, 2 miles of pavement butchered them. Also discovered that my jetting is pretty good now, dropped back down to the 128 and she pulls hard. Could be why the studs are ugly...

Nice Pics. I got to ride in the snow 3 years back and i will never do it again. You can not stay warm. accept my story is backwards to yours, we were camping and then it started snowing on us so we got to. I guess the cold part could have been prevented by wearing better clothing but it was pretty fun while it lasted. Deffinitly dont regret it.

I was sweating like crazy! t shirt, long sleeve and a hoodie with Carhart overalls and I was just plain roasted on the trail. Was chilly up around 45 on the road until I dried out.
