smaller turn signals
So I have a 06 klx and the turn signals hang out almost as far as my grips, I am constantly hitting them when throwing my leg over. I would like smaller ones but not sure if I should go with LEDs or regular bulbs. Also how hard is it to replace? anything to think about before purchasing? where is the best place to buy?

I went LED for my replacements, I liked them better than anything else because I was having the same issue as you. I have a 2012, so not sure how much the difference is with the mounting of it all, but I thought is was really easy to be completely honest with you.
Here is the link that I went with for the rear:

I got fed up after trying a few cheap sets and went with these:
Here they are on someone's dual sport, I have them on a KLX650 and a 550 Zephyr:
They're the rear turnsignals from a Buell Ulysses. They're $15.99 each, but they are DOT legal, have a really flexible stem, and bright enough - but best of all - they don't stick out like Mickey Mouse ears. Worst thing, I had to go to an electronic no load (or variable load) relay from Autozone ($9) and soldered on wire exensions cut from my OEM signals.
But it was absolutely worth it. They look good, weren't that costly, should be available for several more years (made in Italy too) from HD dealers that are willing. The parts guy at AD Farrow's in Columbus Ohio told me he's had a lot of dual sport guys buy them. I liked them so well on the Zephyr that I did them on the KLX - again worth every penny of the roughly $75 total. The reason for the relay change is they use a 3w bulb, making higher draw.
