Default Skid/Bash Plates

Greetings everyone!

Fairly new to this forum.

Just picked up a new 2009 KLX250S about a week ago. Been too cold to ride (other than a couple of quick trips up and down my driveway to get a quick ride fix).

I was wondering if I could get some opinions on bash plates.

I'm liking the Turbo City/TCI bash plate with the engine guards. Its a bit pricey, but it looks like it offers good protection. Anybody have good/bad experience with these?

I just used a regular bash plate on my DR650 and gouged up the left-side engine covers on a couple of falls. Mostly due to the shift lever, and once the engine cover got chewed up on some gravel. The TCI plate above looks like it would have prevented that if the bike had one.

Would welcome the thoughts and experience of the collective group.

I like the looks of that TCI, but the price is out there. I have a Moose Racing, which I think is very similar to the Utah skid plate. I also like the looks of the Scorpion.

I have the TCI skid plate and engine guards on my 09SF. I like them. Easy to put on and good protection too.

How's the clearance on the shift lever side? Meaning, when shifting up or down, does you foot ever hit the engine guard? Hard to tell from the pictures, but it kinda looks like your toe(s) would hit guard when shifting?

Also, any rust on the steel guards?

No problems with shifting.

The bars are powdercoated, no rust issues. Plus, I live in the desert.

Default Oil Changes

Alright, despite the crappy, no picture, instructions that come with the skid plate, I managed to get it installed. Man, you need to be a contortionist to get some of the nuts and bolts in place

It wasn't till I was all done and took a step back to admire my work that I realized that the right-side engine guard will have to be removed everytime an oil filter change is necessary

Oh well, if anybody has found any clever ways around this, let me know.
