Default side stand slop

I bought this used a year or so ago

the side stand moves out, and bike leans over more- when you rest bike on it

I think I recall looking at a new one one day and its about the same

are these things sloppy

anyone do any fix or upgrade to take out the slop

Mine was extra sloppy after it finally broke and was rewelded, so I added a washer that I ground thinner and slid inside the kick stand.
The result was as desired, enough play to let the stand settle a bit when the weight of the bike rests on it.

I had the same issue on my '12. I resolved it just like Ben did-make a shim to take up excess clearance on the pivot. It's a bit of a pain to get it right but it will fix the problem.

Shim is the way to go. I tried squeezing the stand together and tightening the bolt , but found that the bolt is a shoulder bolts so will not tighten past a certain length, so just spread the stand back to original width.
