Exclamation Should I Drill My Buttplug? (Hmm...)

On the '09, the thing's welded in there.

I plan on adding an exhaust (Muzzys most likely) but until I do, I'd like to get whatever improvement I can outta my stock can.

I've got a stage 2 DynoJet kit installed w/ the snorkle removed, and I know that people w/ earlier model bikes oftentimes removed the buttplug.

So, would it do anything if I drilled some holes in it? If so, how many holes, and what size drillbit would I use?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, figured as much. I looked over some S&M sites for KLX related information, but just couldn't find too much over there.

In terms of drilling the KLX OEM exhaust...I drilled the restrictor plate w/ a 1/2" bit. Not much louder and maybe a little noticeable difference in performance. Not bad for free.

And by saying this, you mean you put a long 1/2" bit down the factory hole in the muffler, and just broke through that piece of metal, correct?

Not another lubricants thread!!

Each to is own I say.
But at least get someone else to do it for you.
Doing it yourself is far too weird.

Oh, and do a search on lubricants.
Plenty on here about that.

Yes, inquiring minds want to know! Also, did you take off the muffler first? I cant imagine metal shavings to be too good for the muffler.

I think they'll drill your butt-plug for free if you drop the bike off at your local penetentiary. Seriously though I drilled my exhaust while it was on the bike. I don't think any of the chips could make it all the way back to your engine, and I don't see how they can hurt the muffler. I didn't notice much difference in power, and only a little bit of difference in the sound of the bike.

To clarify, you take a drill bit that is a 1/2" in diameter.....whatever length you have and drill straight in the hole the exhaust comes out.

As far as the shavings go, just make sure they don't get in the muffler bearings. Those are a bitch to replace and are expensive as hell. But if your careful you should be fine.
