Make no mistake the KLX250 isn't a very good on the freeway. 75mph = 7500rpm. You can push it a little more, but a stock bike will slow down on the hills. Drop down to 65mph and the bike isn't screaming, but that means you better be in the right lane. I don't do much freeway, so it works for me. The XR650s and the DRZ400s 37" seat height is a deal breaker for my 30" inseam. If I was gonna go bigger I'd probably go to the DR650, but that's my problem.

Ya the 06/07 seem better suited for off road, I was hoping to get new, and the 11's the shop has by me are Perry well priced right now, but I was wondering if the sorter suspension would be an issue off road, they still seem to have 11" of clearance

If you want a great off-road bike that sees road occasionally - get an 06/07. If you want a fun road bike that occasionally hits the trails - get the 09+.

If you're an experienced rider you will want more soon after you get the bike. Tighten the suspension, exhaust, jet, big bore.. That'll make you happy

Don't get me wrong, it's a good bike as a 250, but you will want more soon enough.
I don't know, CL. There's a lot of good, objective info dispensed by many/most of the contributors here. If you read most of the posts on this forum, I think most of us, including your input from past experience, aren't just quotes from a KLX fan club. Every bike has pros and cons for the given rider or type of riding, and I see a lot more reality in most of the threads here than KLX-the-greatest-bike-ever-made responses. Where else you gonna go to get info about a given bike or activity? Yes, you have to use some discernment in any forum like this, but overall I don't think most of us have too many stars in our eyes about this or any other bike.

I have a 29" inseam and my KLX is just fine. I dropped it 1" with dog bones and had a custom seat made that was cut down another 2" or so over stock, and now I'm on my tip-toes. I'd love to go down another inch, but I can't without reworking the rear shock to limit its travel so it doesn't bottom against the fender. Rarely do I really NEED the extra inch lower though.

Power-wise it's ideal off-road. It's lacking on the street, but just don't try to get anywhere in a hurry and you'll be fine. Or save up for the big-bore kit.

i definitely love commuting on the klx250 on the freeways...it's the little engine that could...just enough power to do everything, just not that quickly...it's good to have a 13t and 15t to switch out for different riding...15t for everyday commute and touring...13t for city, dirt and fun...i've tried bigger cc bikes, but the klx is just more fun....i can cruise at 80 mph all day long....freeways up mountains...downshift to 5th and cruise 75 mph no problem....i'm little under 150 lbs, but wear full gear....also, my klx is modded fully..
