Default Shifting Problems

My KLX 250sf will not shift lower than 2nd gear. The Star shifter was broken, but i replaced it and I am still having the same problem. I then checked all the Pins and such but nothing else is broken or bent... Any Ideas?

You said start shifter was broken. Are you sure theres no debris left inside that might interfere with the shifting? A small metal fragment might still be lodged inside. Hope you'll get this fixed. Ride safe.

It might have bent the forks that move the gear in the tranny.

Is it possible to put it in incorrectly, by which I mean, shifted or rotated one place over?
I don't know, it's just the kind of thing I would do if it's possible.
Good luck figuring it out!
I've crashed and bent my shift lever so many times I feel like I'm on borrowed time before I have to do this.

Welcome, BikeRider.
What year is your bike? How many miles?
Check your clutch adjustment.
A little bit more free play than the thickness of a nickle is what most recommend. I like a bit more.
My first adjustment came at a little over 3K and I'm not too hard on the clutch. I couldn't find neutral and sometimes wouldn't shift at all.
Hope it's that simple.
Good luck.

Make CERTAIN that the shifter isn't hitting your frame, or bash-plate, or bracket. That can keep it from going all the way down to 1st.

Make sure the clutch was adjusted correctly during prep at the dealer. Hope it's that simple.
Good luck.

I'm having this same issue after breaking my shift shaft.. Replaced it and now it has a hard time getting in and staying in first gear. Edit: My return spring pin was slightly bent up as well... resulting in possibly keeping the shift mechanism from going all the way down.. Ordered the $7 part and will advise.
