Default She's alive.......

This evening a friend helped me add the Q4 Muffler, Powerbomb, K & N Filter, and the 13 tooth front sprocket. All I can say is SHE's ALIVE!!!!

Seriously though, the bottom end grunt is waaayyy more evident and the mid range power is more noticable. Before the mods when you punched the throttle it made noise but just didn't respond with much. Now you can feel the back squat and the front lift as it is alot more responsive and gutsy.

6th gear is alot more useful as you can even accelerate from a much lower speed but it revs much higher at say... 60 mph. I guess that's the 13T sprocket. Actually 3rd gear and up is more friendly at lower speeds as it will still accelerate alot quicker as opposed to down shifting before to just maintain speed.

If I am traveling on a long road trip I think switching back to the 14 tooth would make a lot more sence but for off road and around town the 13T is the ticket.

The bike no longer has the gutless feel and sound of the stock muffler. The
Q4 is louder than I had expected but it's not obnoxiously loud either. It definatley sounds good and stronger than the stock muff.

Thanks to everyone for answering all my dumb questions lately and talking me into making these changes. Now I'm out of lunch money for the next 3 months.

How much the whole "kit" cost?

Have you done the job yourself? how long did it take?

I've found a nice 2007 KLX for a good price with less than 900km on the counter... I'm quite unstable rightnow... must count... must not tell wife... must not divorce though...

The pipe n muffler runs close to $500 and another $100 for the K & N and the jet kit. Two of us to install all this was about 2 hours.

Oh yea, $10.00 for the 13 tooth, that's in the two hours as well.

I can't remember how many teeth were on the rear sprocket but I got a bigger one and it had given it quite a bit of oomph too. I'm not too familiar with the 09s but I'm assuming it has all the smog garbage, and I'm hoping you took that off too.

dmar,

I'm probably done moddin for a while. I've drained my play money plus some and in all honesty for a newbie like myself I'll have enough trouble keeping the bike upright in the dirt so the performance mods are pretty much complete.

The only thing that I"m still considering is a larger tank but that will wait till next year..... or I may just leave it the way it is.

punkenduro09,

This site has made my choices and decisions a whole lot easier. By reading thru hundreds of past and present posts I deciphered what I liked and disliked and went from there.

I also have a new set of bars to install but I might save that project for this winter.... time to get this beast dirty for a while!!!

Sounds great man ... make sure you post up some pics of the finished product. I'm super excited cuz my Q4 and megabomb header should be coming in tomorrow (around the same cost as you, that and . Need I just need to get a 132 jet (and hopefully a kouba screw, which i haven't figured out how to order yet) to go with it and get some help tuning and then I cant wait to see how she feels loosened up a bit. (not my strong suite)

Had a chance to finally take her off road today....WOW, what a huge difference!!! Turned a fun bike into a freakin awesome bike, worth every penny to add the exhaust and the 13T front sprocket.
