seeking advice from big bore owners
#34
Man, I do want to go 351! I've been riding tight, technical Washington state trails and I need some instant wheel lofting power. My concern was from a post by Buffalony, he had an issue with the 351 being a bit tight on the water jackets. It seemed like a reasonable concern. A 340 would be a good compromise between cylinder walls and power. From all the posts I've searched everyone is happy with the 351 kit. I just want to be sure before I drop th' cash on hardware and mechanic.
Big Thanks!
Big Thanks!
I'll be doing my own.
BTW where have you been riding?

Pulled trigger on 351, woot. Bill is a nice guy on the phone.
As far as places I've been riding so far its been Tahuya ORV park, Evans creek and Capitol Forest. Evans creek had a stunning view of Mt Rainier (a monster volcano) but was a pain-in-the-butt to get to. 13 miles of vibrating dirt roads. I though my trailer was going to shake apart. Tahuya has been my favorite, challenging as hell.
I got to be careful what I ride. My girlfriend follows me on a little XT 225. I can only take her certain areas. I had to go back 4 times and pick her bike up off the trail, man I was more tired from that then riding. She had a perfect bolt print bruise on her keester!
Going back to Tahuya tomorrow.

I'm not sure which pictures you've been looking at. Here's a side by side 250 and 351. Do you think those channels are almost gone?
The bike works fine with the 351, stock carb and stock muffler. I rode mine thousands of miles in that configuration, and it only had the stock muffler relieved with a 1/2" drill bit, and rejetting in the stock carb. And the KDX200 snorkle.
It ran fine. If you rev'd it to only 4,000 rpm and dumped the clutch, it would stand straight up. And that was while using the bigger 15T countershaft sprocket.
If you go to Bill's website, you can compare the 351 dyno runs with the stock carb and pipe and then the 351 with the pumper carb with an aftermarket pipe.
