Sealant on float Bowl KLX250s?
To all
2006 KLX250s
I have the carb ready to go but I have a question on the float Bowl O-ring. I noticed a sealant “small amount” surrounding the O-ring. The sealant was applied in the valley then the O-ring was put on top. No sealant is on the top of the O-ring itself. I am buying a new O-ring and wonder what this sealant is? Is it necessary? The sealant must be fuel proof “Hylomar” or similar. Curious, any comments.
thanks

Thanks for all the replies. I though it was some sediment in the bowl O-ring area. When I took out the O-ring I noticed the sealant. This is why I am getting a new O-ring. It has come to my understanding that a small amount is used to hold the O-Ring in place not to seal, I think this make sense.
Thanks!

I have seen that light brown color sealant holding the O-ring into the bowl on a few bikes. They must assemble them upside down on the line and glueing the O-ring in is a simple way of assuring a good seal and that the O-ring isn't twisted or torn by the carb builders.
If rebuilding or replacing the O-ring for some reason I would not worryabout regluing. A little hylomar wouldn't hurt if you find that the O-ring won't stay put. Amazingly, this seal never seems to leak despite being a large seal area, 4 small screws and thin gas on one side.
