Don't know on the oil depth with the springs still installed, maybe someone knows....bump.

I have the Tusk brand seal savers on my bike, very cheap and work great. I've had my bike up to the seat stuck in mud with no issues on the fork seals and not a knick in the tubes. You need to drop for forks out to install them, but the over all job doesn't take more than an hour tops.

I used them on my Ducati Monster too with great results, on the Monster a lot of the lower tube was not protected so it would get beat to snot by road debris.
