Default Sdunne at Gusev Crater

Sdunne getting air over Gusev Crater:

When asked about his mission, sdunne replied, "Yeah, well, with the gravity only about 0.6 that of terrestrial MX courses, I can really get some serious air time - no troubles there. Also, when I crash, and oh boy do I crash, the low grav makes it only hurt a lot, instead of excruciating, " - [opens pressure suit to show ribs] - "See, only two broken ribs. Had this been on Earth, there'd be at least three, and possibly a punctured lung."

Sdunne went on to say that the air is thinner here too - makes the KLX Rover run much richer and proves to be an astronomical challenge to properly set the fuel mixture ratio. A16tony, maintains contact with sdunne while safely back at JPL in Pasadena and offers suggestions on the settings - these based on a duplicate KLX Rover at the NASA rover proving grounds. Meanwhile Bmwhd in Houston runs further experiments with even different jet/needle combinations.

When we asked Sdunne about the performance of his NASA built KLX Rover, "It's a little heavy, so I cut off most of the frame and drilled holes in every other part to lighten it up. Also, I cut away all those heat shield tiles. Only pussies use those. Then I replaced the stock exhaust port nozzles with custom NASA-built solid rocket booster scramjet flame throwing hydrogen detonators, and that seems to have helped it out a bit across the throttle range."

What about the noise - doesn't that detonator thing make it loud? Sdunne: "We're on freakin' Mars for cryin' out loud - there haven't been life forms that give a martian rats *** about that for at least a billion years. That Billion with a "B", so no, I'm not worried."

So what is your mission here in Gusev Crater anyway? "That information is on a need to know basis and you don't need to know. Besides, if I told ya, I'd have to kill ya. I have a license to kill, Gobment said so."

Good enough for us!

Cheers, sdunne! [sm=icon_rock.gif]

OK I've said this before, but you have got to save some of that medication for when your better. Me thinks you have too much time on your hands, which was a great song by Styx. Well keep up the good work, it keeps us all guessing.

No medication here ... one of the first things that went through my mind when the photos came back from Mars was what a great place to ride! Just having a little fun with photshop.

I have Photoshop at work, but it seems like there are too many buttons and options in the program. I salute anyone who can use it. [sm=smiley32.gif]

I did this with "The GIMP" - an open source photoshop'ish program. I can't afford the real Photoshop since I don't do this as a profession, which is probably obvious after seeing my "edit" above, though admittedly, I didn't spend hardly any time on it, which is also obvious, I'm sure. The point was only to have some fun - add a little entertainment value - no offense to sdunne or anyone else, no martians were harmed in the making of this post

http://www.gimp.org/

The GIMP is free, so that's its main appeal. I've never used photoshop, but I hear it's a lot easier than the GIMP, but it carries a pretty hefty price tag - money better spent on parts, IMHO

Sure, but you gotta pack light. At about a million $ per pound to launch a Mars mission, we had to put sdunne on a diet first. That's why he took the hacksaw and drill to his KLX. No stock bikes on Mars - that's the rule. Oh, and you have to post some action shots, of course. To, ah, ... see if you're worthy, yeah, that's the ticket - they're not cropped and edit'd into some cheezy NASA image, no sir. We need to verify that you have the "right stuff".
