Default SAND TEST TODAY

Today I took the bike out for a ride and decided to hit some trails. There was some trails with sand and the bike was all over the place. So I stop and let some air out of the front tire down to 5 or 6 psi( I know that is too low but this was an experiment and I don't recommend anybody lowering the psi that low).Let me tell you this thing tracked straight as an arrow threw the sand. It handled great. Steering felt a little heavy but that was due to the low air pressure.I set the tire pressure to 14 psi when I got back home and I will see how that feels on the next ride. As soon as the rear tire wears out I will be replacing both tires because this front tire sucks in the sand.

The next time you are out try lowering your tire pressure and let me know what you think. When I first got the bike I thought it was just me I have been off a bike for a while and thought I was just rusty.I have the bike for 6 months now and It still feels the same, So I thought either I lost all my riding skills or these tires suck in the sand.( not that I have a lot of riding skills... LOL..). I had a friend ride the bike (he has a CRF 450)and he said the same thing the front end is all over the place. Is anybody running a different tire combo? At what psi are you running? Any info would be great![sm=smiley20.gif]

I've got the 270's but there's not much sand where I ride - other than the usual easter wooded terrain with soft loamy soil full of roots and rocks, most areas where I end up are clay hard-pack when it's dry and slick as ice when it's wet. I typically run at the recommended 22 PSI and that seems to be a good all-round pressure. I wouldn't mind trying a little lower pressure in some areas, but I don't have rim locks installed so I've not done that yet.

I did purchase some rim locks but have not yet installed them yet. To help me expidite that process, I splurged for a set of Kenda Track Master II's the other day. I've mentioned before that I like to experiment and the Track Master II's look very interesting. When they arrive and I put them on, I'll install the rim locks at the same time and kill two birds with one stone.

Track Master II's rock in the sand.. ran them at the Pine Barrons adventure we setup via this board. ran the tires at 14psi with rim locks front and rear. keep it peg'd and hang your *** over the rear rack and your good to go.
