Default Rubber footpegs

I was searching for some rubber footpegs for my 2011 KLX250s (In Canada they sold them in 2011) The stock pegs really tear up my boot soles, and I typically do light-medium riding (and not much mud) and don't need the extra grip of the metal footpegs.
So, I ordered the rubber footpeg inserts for the SF:
92160-1401 Damper,Step
92027-162 Collar,6.8X10X12
92150-1339 Bolt,Flanged,6x20

Only issue was that the SF stock metal footpegs must have a nut or threaded section in the middleand the S doesn't, so I epoxied a nut onto the foot peg above the hole in the center and then bolted the parts ordered above onto the stock footpeg, so the rubber insert (Damper,Step) would bolt into the metal footpeg.

Benefits: no vibration through the pegs at high RPM/speed, boot soles not getting destroyed.
Downsides: adds about 1/2" height to the footpeg, changing the rear brake lever and shifter angles a little (although I can adjust to compensate), slightly less grip on the bike - the rubber inserts are a little 'mushy'.

Since I can easily remove them if I need/want to with just one 8mm head bolt, I can change back very easily (even out on the trail if need be.)

Anybody else have any experience with the above or other footpegs that achieve similar results? I wouldn't mind having footpegs that didn't add another 1/2" of height - my son's DRZ400S has rubber inserts that go 'inside' the stock metal one, rather than wrapping over them, so there's still a little metal to grip when pressing down hard on the rubber insert. I'd like to see something like this for my KLX.
