Rpm at highway speeds
#11
I ride my 09' KLX250 for about 1.5 hours at 65-70 to get to where I ride off road, then fill it up, go off road riding for about 5 hours or so, fill it up again then head home, all in all a good days outting then do it again the next day.. I Used to take my Trials bike in the back of a van then do the same amount of riding off road on a gasgas trials machine (NO SEAT!) so having a seat is a luxury for me when off road...
The KLX seems to take high rpms ok so far so I dont see any issues with the engine..
The run-in periods was an nightmare to stick to, but I done it with mine...

The KLX is well suited for 'high speed' zones. At least the engine is. I have 14,000 miles on my motor as of today. 90% of those miles are commuting miles between 6k and 7k rpm. I have a 60 mile round trip to work daily on the highway and the bike is fine. Like Tremor said, give the engine a break. I'd rest it for a bit every 45 minute to an hour. Ride on bro.

if that true, this bike will surely run at 7000 for HOURS. yes, it may be good to let to chill once in a while, but i have topped of my 3.7 gallon acerbis tank and ran at about 7000 all day long. 5 hours of freeway and 5 hours of wide open desert running high rpms then the freeway, not a problem. 330 miles slab, no problem. 360 miles in one day on and offroad, and it wanted more. ive got over 16,500 now and even though most the power is in the mid-range, this bike has no problem taking it up high either, just keep an eye on your valves .

I haven't put a lot of road miles on my KLX yet, but have ridden it at a pretty constant 8,000 rpm all day in the sand dunes a few times and a couple of hundred mile stints on the freeway with no issues. For comparison though, I have 50,000 miles on my '07 Ninja 250 that I basically keep between 8,000 and 10,000 rpm from the time I leave my driveway on my commute. It has had no issues in the motor yet except for the valve clearances needing adjusted a few times.
