I hit the river and make a few casts to early rising trout. Then back to camp to help with breakfast.









And my camera (phone) now goes dead so no more pics of mine. I kick myself still because us old fellas are going to ride that trail we'd planned on. Idaho has a pretty good web site for trails Idaho Parks & Recreation


The planned route is #40035 (Rankin Creek), 4032, 4167, 40598, etc following west. First challenge is crossing the Yankee Fork river. The two quads go first. It's pretty deep, but what the heck? As soon as I'm in the water, I'm sure, no, positive, there's going to be a wet nap. The rocks are slick. Half way across and the adrenaline is pumping hard and I can't believe I'm still up. It's getting deeper, rocks larger, river swifter. And it just keeps getting worse. I somehow hit the other side, approach the bank and make a steep climb out, soaked up to my thighs having nearly dumped it several times and putting feet down for the save.

The trail starts off easy enough and gets rough fairly soon. It's great fun until a long, steep hill climb in deep "cake flour" soil. Then we make it to the top of a hill where the trail just drops off on the steepest descent I've seen yet. We turn around here, except that one of the quad riders just has to run it. He slides uncontrolled down the hill and very nearly flips it over backwards on the ride back up.

I gotta come back and ride that trail sometime.

We get back to the river and find a much shallower place to cross.




I've pressed my luck enough and walk it.

My cousin and her family lived in Boise for a few years, (about 5 years ago). This thread was up on the computer when my wife just sat down. She commented on the pics, and asked where it was, I told her that was Idaho. It would have been a good excuse to visit the cousin and bring the bike for a guided IDRIDR dirtbike tour.
We are going to check out Yellowstone this summer, kinda close.

Thanks for all the pics and the story that went with them. Awesome KLX country. I'm glad you take advantage of it.

Looked like a great ride. Thanks for the pictures and ride report. Always wanted to get to Idaho and ride, somehow never made it.

Here's one I'm trying to put together for July or August. Starting from Challis, Idaho to three fire lookout stations. Somewhere around 40 miles in from Challis. Should be a pretty easy ride .

Sleeping Deer Mtn. Fire Lookout Cabin requires a hike from the end of the road.
