Rim Locks?
I have a KLX300R I recently made street legal and was just wondering if I should take out the rim locks for street riding? Also I just droped my rear sprocket from a 50T to a 47T, it gave me a little more topend but I need a little more what size should i have on the front I think it has a 14T on it now. Any suggestions would be greatfull, Thanks

I'd Keep the rim locks and go to Denniskirk.com and do a search for "spoke weights". Balance that sucka out. I've spun a tire on the rim back in march and it isn't fun being stranded on the road. Like CousinLarry said, the bike's bumpy over 50mph and it gets old really quick. My '07 with a rear rim lock has a ridiculously smooth ride after the weights were added.

sorry to interrupt...but speaking of rimlocks, what are the sizes need for a 2006 KLX250?...I have one (used) in my possession, but for the price want to order 2 new ones...getting flats on the trail really sucks!...oh and where can I get spoke weights?

Front rim lock Part#: 41024-010
Rear rim lock Part#: 41024-009
Front lock is a 1.6 inch. http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...fCatId=&mmyId=
Rear lock is a 2.15 inch http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...fCatId=&mmyId=
Do a search for spoke weights on denniskirk.com or you can get them from www.dual-star.com
The dennis Kirk spoke weights are nicer as they have a chrome finish while the dual star weights are just lead.
To find out how much weight you'll need to balance the rim lock out, check out this thread.https://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum...light=rim+lock

The stock sproket sizes are 14 45 but what i have heard from my dad is that when you put a 15 in the front yeas it can be done but it is snug in there and put either the 45 on or go a couple smaller. good luck. and as for rim locks i dont really notice them on the dirt but that is DIRT so i would not go off of that. i am sure your local shop would not mind putting on some rim weights.

The KLX250 uses 14/42 sprockets stock and is quite high geared, the 300 has different ratios in the gearbox so it's a little hard to compare. If you can get a 15 tooth front for the 300 (and it fits) it might be worth it, 1 tooth more on the front will make around the same difference as the change from 50 to 47 you did on the rear.
