Wow, those looks like some seriously fun trails and riding. Thanks for all the pics. That hill you biffed on looked pretty steep. Kind funny how quickly things go sour once you start to get out of shape. Not "ha ha" funny, though.
Its really great riding up there, I am amazed at the quality of the trails. I usually am on a quad, but lent it to my nephew and really wanted to test my skills and abilities. That hill was a real mindfahk. It "didnt look" steep. At the bottom was a nasty little stream to cross, so you couldnt build any momentum. I was grabbing every rev I could once I realized how steep it was. It didnt matter. I was outta shape from the loose gravel and had no choice. Once I realized I was going off the trail, I considered trying to ride it out, but I was cruising right into a nasty looking briar patch, and the rest of the shrubbery was thick, I couldnt see anything, so I just layed it over. Jumped right back up with both arms over my head, hootin and hollerin, and still having fun.
My nephew on the YZ250F came blasting up and got caught in the same loose mess and dam near took me out when he headed right into the same place I was. I was laughing my azz off once I rolled down the hill. Second time I made it up, just stayed way right and wide open in second. Once we got a few pictures, the ride down was a real thrill.
Out of eight guys nobody had tools or a patch kit? lesson learned I guess LOL
We had a patch kit with us, and tools to pull the wheel off, just no tire irons, not even a decently long set of screwdrivers. You know it wont happen again.
nice post!! I snowmobile that same area...I did not know you could use bikes on the its trails....my sister in law is right in farmington....Maybe I will have to bring the bike up next time we head that way....was going to sell it, but I really want to keep it!
Some of the ITS trails are open, some are not. Its all up to the landowners I guess. Some of the ITS trails are on old paper roads and class 4 stuff. I have ridden there on my sled also, its so different in the summer. We stayed about 5 miles east of Farmington, its a real good location for a campground, so convienent to everything, yet far away enough to feel slightly isolated, plus right on that railbed trail.
Next year you should try Moose Head lake in Greenville Maine...lots of trails in that area
We have considered it, I have been up there on the sleds, awesome riding there, we might venture out that way next summer, we are always looking for new trails and areas. But there is something to be said for being familiar with the trails, as well as the conveince of being near a town like Farmington. Heck, we had 3 Dunkin Donuts within 5 miles !!
