Default Ride Report - Ocotillo Wells

Last minute decision to get the family together for a quick day trip to the desert. Weather was 77*F (25*C) and sunny. On this rare ocasion, Mrs. Lotrat would tag along. Probably been 3 or 4 years since she's been out.

My daugter got sick of watching her brothers having all the fun on the dirtbike, so she geared up to ride the PW80. Odd that I just so happen to bring some old gear that my son outgrew. She rode for an hour and a half.

Other than my 15yo peacocking in every photo, and my daughter barfing in the backseat on all our gear, we had a great time. Caught Mrs. Lotrat doing donuts and not treading so lightly in the new Jeep. I haven't washed it yet to see if there are any desert stripes. Can't wait to do it again.

Default Nice...

to be warm and dry! Thanks for the memories. I think a black Versys would match that sharp looking Jeep .

Ocotillo Wells...man, that place is like Grand Central Station on the weekend...LOL!

Hey Lotrat...have you ever ridden that long loop ride that starts or ends at Split Canyon just across the highway from Ocotillo Wells? That is one of the most fun rides I've had in the area. It runs all the way down Split Canyon and turns left out into a very tight canyon trail where the walls are many times just a few feet wide. It finally comes out on pavement somewhere near that Elephant Trees area. That trail was a hoot.

You gotta know when to go. We went out on Sunday when everyone was headed home. We were the only ones in Holmes Camp. Shell Reef was empty last year on Superbowl Sunday. Holiday weekends are a no-no. I haven't done that loop yet on the KLX. I did it a few years ago in my baja. I came from S2, fish creek, a couple of drop offs, and out Split Mountain. Lots of fun. My boys aren't ready for that long of a ride yet. I need to get my younger son off the PW80. He really hates sand, but I tell him it's the bike that's holding him back. My 15yo is about ready. His CFR150 does way better in the dirt than the KLX. Should be lots of fun in 3-4 years.

I know what you mean, deej. It's only going to be 80 degrees out where I'm at this weekend as I ride and camp for 3 days. Oh the humanity!

We're scheduled for 64F high and sunny this Saturday. Great day to be out in the desert. 80 is just too darn hot.

LOTRAT, nice license plate on the jeep!
