Default Ride Report 6-28

Well, its not much but hey, I got pics! The trail starts roughly 2 miles from my house and ran for about 3-4 miles, then the rest was pavement, rather boring stuff but here are pics from the trail. Pics where there are no handlebars are pics from the same location as the one above them, just looking to see where I've been.

That's the most interesting section, the rest was nice wet pack sand as it had just rained earlier today. I gotta tell ya there was a lot of "duck paddlin" and clutch slipping in that section above though and the fan was running pretty steadily as well, but being 80 and very high humidity plays a big part in that. Rode in my steel toe workboots, jeans, and Alter Ego Jacket in "Mesh Mode" and was sweating a bit at first but once I got above 3rd it was relatively cool.

Anyone ever notice that the KLX seems to be down on power once its warm enough for the fan to kick on? After getting up on the hardpack the bike just seemed a bit doggy compared to usual, or maybe it was the wet sand dragging me down but it seemed to stay on top and was quite solid.

On the same trail I generally come back with mud covered fenders on the 4 wheeler but here's an after shot:

Ok two things. Man that's a lot of mud, and my fan has not come on once in my 2200 miles so far. Even the other day going up a 10 mile grade in 1 st and second gear. I wonder if the fan will ever come on. Nice pictures, and I like the turtle. We don't have them here.

That looks like a baby snapper. Cute when they're little, but when they grow up they are downright viscous. Definitely don't want to dangle a finger out in front of one of those!

Baby: Awww, it's so cute.

Adult: back away, back slowly away!

When they bite, they "strike" kind've like a snake - very fast.

And my uncle used to tell me that they wouldn't let go until it thundered.

Brian: "But what if there's not a storm?"
Uncle: "They just hang on until there is one. That's gonna hurt, huh?"

Side note: I rode all the above at highway pressure (22 psi) on the 603's and it faired quite well, much better than on wet rocks, god that was aweful with street pressure. I have the bike pump with me but being as this trail was short and I planned to ride around the back roads after I didn't see the need to air down the tires.

Nice pics! Is that a yellow Appalachian Trail blaze on the tree, by chance?

I wonder if the ignition module retards the igntion once the engine fan comes on to help cool the bike down by reducing power output. On most fuel injected bikes, the computer richens the mixuture to help cool the engine down once it gets close to overheating (250 degrees)

on a bike without fuel injection about the only thing the TPS does is influence the ignition timing curve according to throttle position, helps the engine run a little cleaner
Just found that lil tidbit above on Advrider, so Motoguy maybe that all ties in together. I really need to order my "grapevine" mods, just gotta find funding somewhere.
