Well, kind of getting tired of the which muffler is better post. Thought it would be something else to think about, and spur discussion.

Okay two parts, even if that one KX could possibly put out that much power,it's completely one off, impractical and unreliable. You could do that to any engine, apples to oranges.

I could add a OEM supplied muffler and take the horsepower up to 138. So that puts us at about 23 HP per 100cc.on 87 Octane, completely reliable and under warranty. And still last 10,000 miles, all while the engine works ALOT harder than one in a bike.

I mean even a lowly 500cc mild mannered carburated trail sled puts out105 HP

this isnt the one with the dynos posted, but its the closest google would get me.

106+ horsepower, over $13,000 invested. No need to go this far.

p.s. read the pw50 link at the bottom, it made me laugh my asz off in busnies studies... all i got was stares and raised eyebrows[8D]

Well, maybe all of these cheap Chinese bikes and atv's you see on every cornerwill nowspur some kind of technological growth.

Because to the average no nothing about motorcycles American, why would you spend alot more money on a Japanese bike if there basically the same as a half price Chinese one.

Kind of like when the Japanese cars really came here in the mid 80's it absolutely forced the American cars to get better.

Everybody laughed at the Japanese cars, then the Korean cars and now I here there starting to Import Chinese cars.

Mike I really don't know why there hasn't been any big advances in bikes over the last 20 years, probably the lack of competition from other manufacturers. Outside of the big four.Maybe the invasion of cheap *** bikes will force the Japanese bikes to become better now.

And my opinion on the last three questions.

1.The American Indian's- the sun giver of all life.

2. Neither! Independent all the way (whoever I feel is going to hurt me the least).

3. To have Love and Fun before you Die.
My three:
1) Christianity

2) Republican (Because I think elephants are cute)

3) To bring up and provide for a family that will honor the Lord andperpetuate my name and genetics into the future.

I don't know how many 'bells and whistles' you can put on a dirt bike that will be crashed or layed down a bunch of times. As far as horsepower, there's only so much a dirt bike should have. I personally don't know how anyone can handle a KX 500. I'm downright afraid of those bikes. My buddy bought one and then turned right around and sold it after one outing because it was so outrageous. I hope street bikes have made more technological advances.

On a side note, whenI was about 13 years old myparents bought me a brand new 1987 Suzuki SP 125 (basically a red DR with turn signals). When I look at the DR 200 of today I see virtually the same bike. Right down to the rear drum brakes.

This is exactly what I'm talking about, if you step back and try to take a unbiased look at motorcycles. They really haven't advanced much at all.

Can you think of anything else that has stayed so much the same over 20 years as motorcycles.

ATV's, Automobiles, PWC's, Snowmobiles, all have advanced ALOT but ho hum most bikes are still dragging *** in the tech area.

Now I've owned at least 20 different bikes from dirt bikes to sport bikes but when I look at them, I, just like you said see the same bikes of 20 years ago.

LOL That's probably why I like my KLX so much is because it's close to the same bike I rode when I was a kid.

Psssh. MX Bikes & sprotbikes are pretty much a complete redesign every two years with updates on the off years. ATVs were basically unchanged from the 80s to just recently but is exploding now (catching up to bikes technology wise). PWC were unchanged till they switched over four strokes & now all they are are 3 seat couch four strokes for the most part.
