Pretty sure it's silicone-based, gives that "feeling" between your fingers. I'll double-check a tube I have in my garage.

I also use the black Right Stuff on a regular basis, I find it an incredibly strong elastic glue. You can use it as a gasket in many places, it has oil and temperature endurance. Problem is your parts become very hard to separate afterward. I would not use it as a gasket sealer...

 

I use Permatex Ultra Copper silicone and Permatex High-Temp RTV silicone. More times than not the high temp aspect of either of these choices is overkill, but since I'm never really clear where the standard Permatex RTV's start to drop off in performance compared to the high temp RTV's, I say what-the-heck. Some even say that the Ultra Copper isn't really suited for plain paper gaskets and rubber applications, but I've used it on everything from gaskets to pancakes and never had one problem with it. Because of its consistency, I think it's easier to apply and for some odd reason easier to clean off of surfaces and reusable gaskets.

 

Very sorry; I appear to have possibly misguided you, Malves. On the other hand, none of my vehicles leak. Looks like I'll buy the 10-buck gasket when the time comes.

I reused my gasket by glueing it into the groove with some Loctite Prism after it shrunk. I also put some Ultra Blue around the cam journals. It now leaks like a sieve. Can I buy a '06 gasket & use it on my '09 engine if they are better quality? Thanks

 

Sealant should only be applied to the "corners" of the half moon shape parts. I never use any additional sealant around the rest of the gasket. Never had a leak, have had it off many times.

Try a new gasket klx4me, there were some problems with some 09's. A new 09 gasket should work for you.
