Default Reuse head cover gasket?

I have the tank off for my new-to-me 2007's free/cheap mods installation.

It's just sitting there wide open, so thought I might check valves while I'm in there.

Can I reuse the head cover gaskety? Looks like it's a nice convenient rubber version - and I'm sure it's never been off. Is it typically good for a reuse or two or should I pick up a new one prior?

Either way, adhesive or no? I've seen it both ways with rubber gaskets.

TIA

Yes, you can/should definitely reuse that gasket. It was only a problem on some/all '09 models that had a funky rubber compound that seemed to shrink when you tried to reuse them. I have an '06 with several valve checks and many, many thousands of miles on it, and the original gasket still works perfectly. Unless yours has visible damage or a tear, use it.

Do you mean a font like Wingding???

JK , TNC is pretty smart.

One other thing, You should use sillicone on the gasket where the half moons dip down on the side of the head (the cam journals) .

Permatex "Right Stuff." EXCELLENT for head/valve cover gaskets.
Just a finger-smoothed bead is all you need.

What happens on the next head job? ...Ok, head work... Will that stuff come off easily? Will it "glue" the gasket to the head, making it possible to damage the gasket?

Nope. Silicone based gasket sealers are pretty neat on rubber gaskets. Gently rub it off with your fingers, and it just peels and ***** off relatively easy.

Oh, wait a minute...I see you're referring to that Permatex product. I don't know enough about that sealant. If it's silicone based I'd say it will be fine. Otherwise, no experience with it from me.
