Default Repacking exhaust

I'm assuming that all packing would be universal no matter what exhaust you are running. If this is the case for those of you that have had to repack what is the best brand to buy? I only have about 400 miles on my pipe but have already seen signs of the packing breaking down. Definately don't want to put what's currently in there back in there if it is only going to last a few hundred miles.

dude, I ordered a repack from Muzzy a couple of years ago, the guy asked me how many miles I had and I told him 10,000 and he said I didn't need it. I ordered it anyway and when i took the pipe apart he was right. It still looked good. I changed it anyway because once you take it out its nearly impossible to get back in.

I can report from experience that R-13 insulation doesn't work... I use the FMF stuff, not the spaghetti, but the stuff that's like thick felt, it seems to be resistant to blowing out.

LEXX brand from Rocky Mountain ATV was inexpensive and seemed to work well. 400 miles seems real early. I bet I put 2000 on the FMF before doing it, and I really didn't think it needed it then. Just wanted to make sure and pass a sound check at an event.

Thanks guys. Yeah, 400 miles seems real early to me too but when I was giving the bike some throttle sitting in the garage I could actually see bits of the packing blowing out the exhaust. I can either wait until it starts sounding real bad or just go ahead and put a better packing in it to not have to worry about it later.

I always run the spark arrestor because of the summers we have here, what tipped me off that I was blowing packing was that the exhaust started to get ultra quiet. The area around the wire mesh was packed solid with powdery fiberglass with only a small hole remaining. I had to dig the stuff out with a small screwdriver. The R 13 quickie repair blew out in two rides. I've got a couple thou on the FMF stuff and it's holding up.

Thanks for the thread. Now I want an aftermarket even less.

I used steel wool on 2 cycle motorcycles. If I did it right and timed it right at night the steel wool would catch on fire and blow out. Quite the sight at night.

David

Still messing with my factory exhaust.
