you can also just open the brake bleeder valve while pushing the caliper piston in by hand easy to do that will give you full clearance for your rotor to be placed between the two pads.there will be some fluid spilled unless you have a hose over the brake bleeder nipple to a small container. the one pad that is hanging down needs to be secured by the front clip just look at the rear brake pads they should be simular, hope this helps

From the picture it looks like the piston is compressed as far as it needs to be, maybe even farther than it should be. Hey Dave don't be hard on yourself, I mean the last time I even had a front tire off on a bike was when they still had drums. (My old Hodaka days) Anyway nobody here thinks any less of you for having trouble and posting questions. I mean we have all posted questions, answers and the occasional snappy pun, but its all in good fun. I'm leaving for the weekend, but I'll have the Blackberry with me so I can follow all of the posts to see what you figured out. When I change both tires I will need to figure this out too.

I just did my tires, and didnt have any trouble with this at all... took the wheel off, and then put it back on and made sure the rotor went between the brake pads and was good to go... strange...

In the picture that Deej blew up I only see the one pad hanging. Is the other one there and I just don't see it? They both should have a rod going through the one end. If you have one pad that is completely loose and falling out then the rod needs to be removed and slid through the hole in the pads.
Maybe I'm just not seeing it in the picture.
But you will have the rod holding both pads on the one end and a notch in the caliper on the oppisite end.
I believe for that pad to fall out the rod must be removed. When installing the pads they are placed in the notch first, then the rod is screwed into place which holds them in.
Doew that make sense with what you are seeing???

The one pad is in place and not moving (you can see it in the pic with the three areas), the other pad is hanging(not completely off).......it's got the small bolt going through it on the bottom just can't get it to snap into anything on the top???
If I ever do get it snapped in, I really can't see how the rotor will fit.............here is a pic..............

This pad is not snapped in just balancing there....but see the space between that pad and the other??
No way to fit rotor and it's pushed in as far as I can get it.............
The two inner pistons are flush with the metal housing.
