rear tail light probs
hey guys,
my rear tail light keeps blowing. the parking light, so not the light that comes on when you hit the brake. it has done it since i bought the bike a jan of this year. some times it blows them in a day or maybe a week or a month. kinda random, no pattern.
any ideas, i plan to do an investigation tomorrow, so i would love some input on where to start. im currently thinking that there is a loose connection creating heat and burning out the filament.

It's odd that it's the same filament.
No problems with any other bulbs?
I would start with checking that the mounting is not loose and causing the bulb to rattle around.
It's worth checking the voltage through the rev range, but I doubt it's a factor.
Maybe try one of these.

But that's not really fixing the problem.

thanks neil, i had a look to day at my bike, and as far as i can tell, it must just be the vibration or bumps that break the filament. after having a look at the link you posted, i consulted ebay and came up with this, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2-X-24-LED-Ca...3A1%7C294%3A50
so hopefully this solves the problems.

Maybe that's it but I have never heard of this being a problem on any bike, dirt or otherwise.
And they all basically use the same bulbs.
In 3 years of abuse, I've never popped a bulb.
Have you got access to a multimeter?
I would certainly be checking a few things first.
Good luck and let us know if you find anything.

i did have a multimeter, but it died in the line of duty when i was checking the volts, gee...i never new my bike was putting out 73volts, then i found the frayed wire going to the probe, so ill have a another one during week, but for 12buck i though it would be a good place to start and i get 2 (the leds i bought off eBay). i also thought that if im getting a volt spike, it cant be very often as 2 globes ago, that globe lasted 2months(if that makes sence).

Seems to be a lot of cheap unsafe electrical components making the rounds these days. Someone on the forum here just lately had a problem with fuses, which could ultimately lead to a fire. Make sure your buying good stuff from a good supplier.
