Default Rear Sprocket

I have already changed my front sprocket to a 13 tooth and I am thinking about going up a few teeth on the rear from 42t to 47t. Can I use the same chain with the larger sprocket? Thanks.

That's what I run, 13/47. I can't for the life of me remember what my chain length is. If no one else responds, I'll try to go out in the shop and count it later.

There are online chain link calculators I think, saving TNC a trip to the shop lol

I'm guessing 110.
Guessworkings:
Stock gearing 14/42 = 106 link chain.
-1 up front, +5 back = +4. 13/47 = 110

I've run 13/14/15 front with rear/chain:
stock 42 / 106 tooth
49 / 110 tooth
45 / 108 tooth

You won't be able to use the 106.

If you get a new chain, buy a 110 or longer and get a chain cutter.

hey a quick question....

what do you top out at (mph) with a 13/47 setup?

I can get up to 130km/h: 80mp/h (indicated) (with shinko 244's) on my 14/39 setup. With the 13/39 set up I saw a top speed of about 124km/h....

Mine "would" pull redline in 6th gear with my 13/47 and current engine setup, but I don't ever do it. Mine is an '06 "S" model with knobby tires, so I don't need to do whatever max speed is. I can see why an SF owner might want or need to. I cruise at a true 55 at about 7000 rpm as calibrated in a Trailtech Vapor instrument panel. I run a 110/100/18 rear tire. The bike is definitely not set up for interstate travel.

TNC: Did you get a chance to check your chain length?

No, haven't checked, but I need to make a correction on my rpm to speed. Late this afternoon I ran the bike while preparing for a trip to the Big Bend area. My rpm at 50 is 6000...60 is 7300...70 is 8800. I'll check on the chain in just a bit.

Looks like 110 links on mine.
