Thanks again mustang, I got this on my bike this weekend. Sorry Deej, no pics. It looks like mustang's pic. Along w/ shark fin I put another sprocket on the rear. Had a Sidewinder Tri-Metal 45. Ordered a 47 on a Friday, guy at Krause called on Monday and said sorry, no 47 Tri-Metal..But, we have a Ti/Ti-Moly in 47. I said I didn't want to spend that much and hemmed and hawwed a bit and he said he'd get me the Ti for the same price. Sweet! I jumped all over that. So that's the story of why I was looking for a shark fin. Might as well just do it all at once and save on cotter pins!

I read, or heard, somewhere that it was better to get a rotor cover made from some high-tech plastic rather than from a high-strength aluminum because the plastic unit will protect the rotor (and bend back to it's original shape), but the aluminum unit will bend into the rotor and stay there.
Anyone have any real-world stories about this?

does the shark fin have to be welded on?...or is it a bolt-on do-it-yourself unit?...I like how it looks.
about the plastic fin...if it can bend into the rotor easily, is it really protecting it?

Newpartsrule, you're welcome. The shark fin is a bolt-on. It completely replaces the stock rear caliper mount. The shark fin is billet aluminum that's about 5/8" thick. You would have to hit it really, really hard at some freakish angle to bend it against the rotor. I suppose anything is possible, but I'm not worried about it.
