Really thinking about Exhausts now.

RE: Really thinking about Exhausts now.
As I noted in another thread, and per the Big Gun chief directly (to me):
"vortex" core was designed for mx bikes that occassionally go on a trail for which they need to observe national forest sound limits. It's a guick slip in and out. It is more open than the "quiet core" insert. It is made differently, doesn't last that long and shouldn't be left permanently. Quiet core is a little more restrictive but will last longer, and is recommended as a permanent dual sport solution like we would use it.

Hey Charles, do any mods to your bike yet and if so what have you done. So bottomline here is the actual Quite core doesnt come with the Exo-x and is Extra money. Also if it was like my last big gun exhaust you can forget about getting the Original packing back in once you install the quite core. I think big gun uses a wrap style packing and the couple times I replaced the packing on my dr250s I had a Bear of a time trying to keep it wrapped around the quite core and getting it installed. I wound up just shreeding the packing material and packing it by stuffing it in around the core pipe. Hmmm maybe if I call big gun and tell them I'm buying a Muzzy they will Give me the quite core.

RE: Really thinking about Exhausts now.
Big Gun Part Numbers:
(#10-4311 Head Pipe) + (#10-4312 Silencer) = (#10-4313 Complete System with Vortex insert + spark arrester & spacers)
The Big Gun site has a Tech Support section that includes a picture tutorial on how to change the packing, if that helps.
Good luck with Tech Support giving you Quiet Core for free ... I'm still trying to get a KLX250 head pipe that fits a KLX250!!!

If I go with the Full exhaust which I probably will it will be with the Big Gun system. When I had my system on the suzuki I was never able to get the stain off though but its not the exhuasts fault. Let me ask you this. A - So yours came with the quite core, seems others say it doesnt or it comes with this Vortex core whatever the F*ck that is. B- in pictures Ive seen it Looks almost like the header pipe of the big gun system sits closer to the Head/cylinder assembly then the stock headpipe. Have you noticed this too. If so that would help with the burning stuff to the header pipe issue. C - finally what part number did you order. was it BG-10K4313 and I take it you would recommend motorcycleparts.biz. I wont be installing it for awhile yet But want to get it and not be told oh, its on back order and where not sure when we will get them in. Thanks...

I have a BigGun EvoX full system and am very pleased with it. I have had it on for about 3 mos. now and the thing rocks. Don't worry about burning stuff onto the header as it is ceramic coated and will take care of itself. I can prove it- my 4-year old rested her 'crocs shoes on the header on a small ride and when we got back I noticed. Luckily those shoes are pretty thick and it didn't burn all the way to her little foot but it had made a huge mess on the pipe right where everyone can see. Well, the next weekend I took the bike on a 200 mile ride and the pipe had burnt all the melted rubber off and it looked new again.
The pipe fits like a glove and comes standard with the quiet core so you don't have to buy that extra (biggunexhaust.com). You will be pleased with the BigGun. Sure there are other systems out there but I guarantee they will not perform up to the BigGun's level when you put it all together with fitment, performance, build quality, and function. The BigGun uses a clamp to connect the midpipe to the muffler which provides a sure tight joint where other manufacturers use springs (a pain imo), Muzzy's have even forgotten to provide the necessary spring hooks leaving the buyer with a pipe they cannot use until Muzzy replaces the faulty part. Look, it's your money and you can buy what you want. I don't want this to start into another muzzy vs biggun. I am just stating my experiences and what I have read from others here on this forum. I bought my pipe from motorcycleparts.biz for $390, had it in 3 days. Good luck.

Kawasaki KLR250/300 Complete Exhaust System (Silencer Shown) Lighter than stock, adds up to 3.5 more horsepower. Meets AMA 102 db sound requirements also comes standard with USFS approved spark arrestor, Vortex Quiet Insert meets 94db state park requirements, Race Tools pillow packing. (only exhaust system to come with all the above features standard) Jetting not necessary. Standard 6 month warranty applies to this product.
you decide. I wouldn't want it any quieter than what it sounds like from box to bike. header pipe is same as oem as far as clearance from head, the system fits like a glove. header pipe is ceramic coated which is why the stain burnt off. I highly recommend the place i referred you to, I had no problem with them and biggun customer service was great as I had 2 end bolts vibrate out and I emailed them and told them and in 2 days i had a full set of rear muffler bolts shipped to me free. I was impressed. I don't know if they have them in stock or not, you'll have to check on that. there's is only one part # for the full system EvoX for KLX 250/300. get one and stop wasting your time talking about it.

Ya ya I know, just waiting on my bonus check. From what others say though this quite vortex Isnt the quire core so I will probably be ordering one of those as well. I can tell you from my experience with my previous big gun Race system that the quite core is a pipe that runs the Full length of the muffler so if this vortex is something that just slips in and out it's Not the Quite Core...

RE: Really thinking about Exhausts now.
This is the 15 inch Quiet Core insert (not included with the Complete System package). It replaces the Race Core insert. The only difference between these two inserts is the Quiet Core has a series of internal baffles that stick into the exhaust flow and deflect the pulses into the packing, which lowers the sound level. It also increases the back pressure to a certain degree.

RE: Really thinking about Exhausts now.
This is the Vortex Insert. It installs WITH the race core insert to quiet things down, but can be easily removed when more power is needed, or visa versa. (See charleshmosesii's reply about MX riders doing an occasional trail ride). Its easier to install / remove because it fits within the race core and does not touch the packing.
I don't know if its possible to use the Vortax Insert AND the Quiet Core for even lesser sound. I suspect that even if it was possible, the increase in back pressure would be too prohibitive.
Hope this helps.
