Radiator Recepies

Radiator Recepies
Since I've been catching up my two 06 bikes with the (latest from the forum) free mods and such. I had a thought about the radiator solution.
Since these bikes sat so long I may have noticed some things frequent users wouldn't.
The bikes were bought used but are basically unused with 1300 miles each. Pretty sure my coolant is original.
My overflow bottles had a white silt in the bottom that settled out from the coolant.
I don't know if our stock coolant was silicate free or that's what I rinsed out of the overflow bottle (like a cleanser powder residual) .
I realize the klx isn't picky about coolant. I just wondered if silt was in the bottle is it likely in the block and head and running some distilled water flushes through might be in order before mixing a new batch of coolant?
I usually mix up redline water wetter with distilled water and a dash of silicate free antifreeze as a coolant where freezing temps aren't too much of a concern.
Anyone using Evans or anything trick or just water and antifreeze?
Steve

Hey Chain, (I do not own a KLX....but) I would flush the system. Never hurts. I've used Water-Wetter with ho-hum results; nothing OMG amazing, but it does work. There are some other pricey coolants out there (Blue Ice, etc...) if you're experiencing heat related problems or using ungodly revs in a racing situation. Otherwise....and I'm not being critical....(I like "preventative" thinking!)....probably a fresh fill of PEAK Global or other non-silicate coolant should serve the purpose just fine. If you ARE experiencing high temps....you may have other issues. (Been there...done that.)
Props on your prevention thinking cap, though, for sure!! Let us know what nasty goop comes out when you flush..........er......your BIKE!!
My two cents.

I bought my 06 KLX in November of 05 and It still has the original water and antifreeze. Never had to add any either. I suppose I should look at it at some point. So what should I use, give me a brand and type.

Wow Deej, over seven years on the same coolant! I've read that the stuff loses it's anti-corrosive properties over time. Good idea to change it out IMO.
Get silicate free and mix with distilled water. Jeff suggests the PEAK Global. I've used Prestone green stuff.
