Default Radiator fan stopped working.

So yeah, stopped working on me.

The fan is operational, I can jump start it with 12v and it's fine.

If I disconnect the fan switch on the radiator, and hook the lead to a ground source - the fan spins up.

I can not find a fan fuse, though the manual seems to elude that there is one.. But if the fan fuse was blown, it would not come on at all when I hook the switch lead to ground, would it?

My thinking is a blown radiator fan switch? If that's the case, new ones are $75!!! **** that, I'll be wiring up a toggle switch and saving the money.

But I just wanted to write to get other opinions and to see if anyone knows where the fan fuse is!

Thanks

How do you know it stopped working? In the 12,500 miles I have put on my bike, it only came on once on a 100+ degree day in first gear going really slow.

Because I was in some tight technical crap in the woods on a 85° day. The red temp warning light came on, and the fan did not. That is the fan's queue to come on - as it always has been.

I turned it off, let it cool a bit, and started to drive home. It did it again when I got to a stop light for a couple mins.

I know it's not working, need to find out why or just hook up a toggle switch.

Roger that. The switch is $75.00? What a rip. Toggle switch for the win. Just make sure to hook it up to the ignition side.

I would try to trouble shoot the fan switch or the fan relay or the water temp. sensor before you put it on a toggle switch! I understand why you would want to do it that way but with you having the 351 kit on your bike if you dont turn it on untill the light is on everytime could you be causing the engine damage by waiting?

My fan has always come on before the temperature light. Matter of fact I've never seen the temp light come on, the fan just comes on and off. Find the switch and test it first before unloading massive bank on it. I, too, would figure this out before going the toggle switch route since you've got the tiny waterjacket with the 351 kit.

Just take the damn thing off. I took mine off.

Like Deej said, he only ever saw his come on once after being really hot going slow. Mine was the same way, I think mine only ever came on once under extreme heat and it turned right back off when I got the least bit of air moving on it.

I consider it more of a decoration on the shelf.

Yeah and just put some electrical tape over that annoying temperature light. :0
There, I fixed it.

Where are you from, Cousin Larry? Do you ride in those temps often? I'd just be very concerned since you have the 351 kit and the waterjacket is alot smaller than the stock setup. My fan comes on all the time down here in the swamp. I also ride in tight stuff alot as well. Stupid heat + tight stuff = lots of fan action. I still think you should fix the fan rather than take it off. You just said you had the temp light come on in traffic. What you gonna do when you get caught in a traffic jam and the thing starts overheating? Shut it off and start pushing with the flow of traffic?
